Lets suppose, for just a moment or two, that this is all there is.

“Imagine there’s no Heaven

its easy if you try

No Hell below us

above us only sky”

Yes, John, kinda like that.

For those of us raised / steeped / indoctrinated in religion, this is a extraordinary thing to postulate. No God, no Hereafter, etc. Blasphemy.

We are taught to be grateful to God for all things great and small. Thankful, yet.

But if we change the direction of the light illuminating these things, how much more precious do they become?

If they are bathed in the everlasting light of The Almighty, how truly wonderful they seem.

However, if they’re bathed in the light of THAT DAY, never to be illuminated again, well then, how precious?

You’re making love to your high school sweetheart by the river. On one hand you’ll be punished for eternity. On the other, this is all there is and all there ever will be. There is no condemnation from anyone other than your parents. There is only the warmth of your bodies, the density of the boulder you lay upon, the river, the trees, the wind, the earth, and the din of thousands of cars passing overhead on the overpass, oblivious to the intersect of two humans below them.

How much more precious is that moment?
